Derek Alton Walcott, (Castries, 23a de januaro de 1930 - 17a de marto 2017) estas poeto, dramaturgo kaj grafika artisto karibia. Naskiĝis en la vilaĝo Castries, Sankta Lucio,[1] en 1992 li estis premiita per la Nobel-premio pri literaturo, pro "Lian poezian verkon luman, subtenatan de historia vizio, rezulto de multkultura sindevontigo". Biografio redakti

Walcott estas filo de nigra patrino kaj de brita blanka pentristo, naskiĝinta en Sankta Lucio, insula lando situanta en la Malgrandaj Antiloj, en Karibio.

Li studis en la Universitato de Karibio en Jamajko. En 1953 translokiĝis al Trinidado kaj Tobago, kie li fondis la Trinidadan Atelieron de Teatro kaj produktoris siajn unuajn teatraĵojn. En 1981 ekloĝis en Usono kaj eklaboris en la Universitato Harvard.

Dum la tempperiodoj alternis siajn estojn inter Trinidado kaj Tobago, kaj la urbo Bostono, kie li estis profesoro de literaturo kaj kompono de la Universitato de Bostono.

Emeritinte kaj loĝis en Castries, lia naskiĝurbo kaj ĉefurbo de Sankta Lucio.
