Plenkreskuloj havas striecajn brunajn suprajn partojn kun helbruna brusto kun strieco, blanka ventro kaj blanka gorĝo. Ili havas palan centran strion en krono kun malhela strio ĉiuflanke, olivecajn vizaĝon kaj kolon, rustokolorajn flugilojn kaj mallongan malhelan forkoforman voston.

Ties reprodukta biotopo estas arbustecaj kampoj, ofte humidaj, en suda Kanado, nordorienta Usono, kaj Usona Mez-Okcidento.[2] La nesto estas bone kaŝita malferma tasformo usr aŭ ĉe grundo en herbeca situo; tiuj birdoj ofte nestumas en malgrandaj kolonioj. Ili migras al marĉoj kaj malfermaj arbaroj de pino en sudorienta Usono.

Tiuj birdoj manĝas surgrunde ĉefe insektojn kaj semojn. Ties kanto estas rapida se-lik.

La teritorio kaj nombroj de tiu nearktisa birdo malpliiĝas, probable pro habitatoperdo.

La populacio de Teksaso estis sole konata el arbustaro de 0.42 km² ĉe Houston kaj malaperis post senvegetaligo pro industria disvolvigo en la 1980-aj jaroj. Ĝi estis konsiderata distinga subspecio (A. h. houstonensis: Arnold, 1983) sed ĝi estas nune konsiderata kiel falinta al kategorio de variaĵo de la nomiga subspecio (Browning, 1990). Simile la populacio de Suda Dakoto iam konata kiel P. h. occidentalis estis sinonimigita kun la nomiga. La ununuraj restantaj subspecioj ĝenerale (sed ne universale) akceptitaj estas la Orienta henslova ammodramo kaj la Okcidenta henslova ammodramo, kies teritorioj estas plejparte separataj de la Apalaĉaj Montoj.
