Plantosciencobotaniko (greke, βοτάνη: herbo), neoficiale ankaŭ plantologio (laŭ NPIV per greka postafikso, λόγος: traktado) aŭ fitologio (greke, φυτόν: planto), estas la studado de plantoj kaj ĝenerale de la plantoregno. Ĝi estas branĉo de la biologio.

La frukto de Myristica fragrans, estas specio indiĝena de Indonezio, kaj fonto de du valoraj spicoj, nome la ruĝa (maciso) kiu enhavas la malhelbrunan muskaton.

Botanikistoplantosciencisto estas sciencisto kiu specializas en tiu studfako.

Tradicie, en botaniko estis inkludita ankaŭ la studo de fungoj kaj algoj fare de fungosciencistoj kaj algosciencistoj respektive, kun la studo de tiuj tri grupoj de organismoj restantaj ene de la sfero de intereso de la Internacia Botanika Kongreso. Nuntempe, botanikistoj studas proksimume 400,000 speciojn de vivantaj organismoj[1] el kiuj ĉirkaŭ 260,000 specioj estas vaskulaj plantoj kaj ĉirkaŭ 248,000 estas florplantoj.[2]

Botaniko originis ekde prahistorio kiel Herbokuracado kun la klopodoj de fruaj homoj por identigi - kaj poste kultivi - manĝeblajn, medikamentajn kaj venenajn plantojn, igante ĝin unu el la plej aĝaj branĉoj de scienco. Mezepokaj kurac-ĝardenoj, ofte ligitaj al monaĥejoj, enhavis plantojn de medicina graveco. Ili estis pioniroj de la unuaj botanikaj ĝardenoj ligitaj jam al universitatoj, fonditaj de la 1540-aj jaroj pluen. Unu el plej fruaj estis la Botanika Ĝardeno de Padovo. Tiuj ĝardenoj faciligis la akademian studon de plantoj. Laboroj por katalogi kaj priskribi ties kolektojn estis la komencoj de planta taksonomio, kaj kondukis en 1753 al la dunoma nomsistemo de Linnaeus kiu restas en uzo ĝis nun.

En la 19-a kaj 20-a jarcentoj, novaj teknikoj estis evoluigitaj por la studo de plantoj, inkluzive de metodoj de optika mikroskopo kaj bildigo de vivantaj ĉeloj, elektrona mikroskopo, analizo de kromosomnombro, plantkemio kaj la strukturo kaj funkcio de enzimoj kaj aliaj proteinoj. En la lastaj du jardekoj de la 20-a jarcento, botanikistoj ekspluatis la teknikojn de molekula genetika analizo, inkluzive de genomiko kaj proteomiko kaj analizo de DNA-sekvencoj por klasifiki plantojn pli precize.

La radiko "botanik" estas en la unua Oficiala aldono.[3] Ĝi devenas el la vorto de la Antikva greka βοτάνη (botanē), signifanta "paŝtejo" aŭ "furaĝejo", kaj ankaŭ "herbo"; βοτάνη deriviĝas siavice el βόσκειν (boskein), "manĝi" aŭ "paŝtadi".[4][5][6]

En reta versio de Plena Ilustrita Vortaro de Esperanto estas difino: "botaniko. Scienco pri la vegetaĵoj." Nomo "plantologio" estas skribita kiel sinonimo.[7] "Plantologio" ne estas oficiala.

Simile en PIV "botanikisto" estas ĉefa nomo kaj "plantologo" estas sinonimo.[8]

"Plantoscienco" estas kunmetaĵo de du oficialaj radikoj.

En botaniko, la botanika nomo estas la nomo asignita al ĉiu planto. Laŭ la naturo de la nomota planto, oni asignas al ĝi sciencan nomon (se temas pri natura planto) aŭ kultivaran nomon (se temas pri kultivata planto kiu plenumas kelkajn postulojn de unuformeco kaj stabileco) aŭ nomon de hibrido (se temas pri hibrido). Kiel ĉe la tuta biologia nomenklaturo, en grupoj de organismoj malmulte studitaj la rekomendo de la taksonomoj estas ke oni nomu ilin neformale ĝis ties konsidero estu stabila.

La plantoj estas vivaĵoj, kiuj faras propran nutraĵon, helpe de fotosintezo, kaj enhavas eŭkariotajn ĉelojn. Fungoj ne estas plantoj; pri ili okupiĝas la mikologio. Ankaŭ fotosintezaj bakterioj (cianobakterioj) ne estas plantoj.

La studado de herboj utilaj por la kuracado de malsanoj (herbokuracado) komencis dum la prahistorio. En skribita formo, informoj pri utilaj herboj estas en la praaj verkoj de ĉiuj popoloj. Ekzemple, jam Sumeroj kaj Egiptoj faris listojn de utilaj herboj.

La unua sistema plantosciencisto estis verŝajne Teofrasto, helena filozofo de la 4-a jarcento a.K.. En siaj verkoj (ĉefe Περὶ Φυτῶν Ιστορίας = Historio de Plantoj kaj Περὶ Φυτῶν Αἰτιῶν = Kauzoj de Plantoj), li priskribis pli ol 500 plantoj, proponis frutempan klasadon kaj studis la naskadon kaj la kreskadon de plantoj.

Pluraj romianoj verkis traktatojn pri teknikaj flankoj. La unua estis Katono la pli maljuna, kiu skribis en la 2-a jarcento a.K. De agri coltura (Pri Agrikulturo).

Dioskorido, helena kuracisto de la 1-a jarcento p.K., listis pli ol 1000 plantoj kun desegnoj en sia verko Περὶ Ὕλης Ἰατρικῆς = Pri Kuraca Materio (ankaŭ konata sub la latina nomo De materia medica). Tiu libro similas al la listoj de plantoj de la fruaj herbokuracistoj, sed gajnis famon ĉar ĝi estas tre riĉa je informoj.

Dum la sama jarcento, Plinio la Maljuna skribis la verkon Naturalis historia (Natura Historio), enhavantan 37 librojn; 16 libroj temas pri plantoj, plantokultivado kaj herbokuracado.

En la 9-a jarcento, araba sciencisto, Abu Hanifa ad-Dinaŭari, skribis gravan verkon pri plantoj, titolitan Kitaab an-nabaat (= Libro de la Plantoj). Ĝi estas konata hodiaŭ nur parte. Inter aliaj arabaj plantosciencistoj, elstaras Abu al-Abbas an-Nabati kaj Ibn al-Baitar, kiuj vivis en la nuntempa Hispanio dum la 13-a jarcento.

Moderna historio redakti

Dum la 15-a jarcento, kun la unuaj botanikaj ĝardenoj, la plantoscienco pli klare apartiĝas de aliaj branĉoj de la natura scienco.

La listo de plantosciencistoj dum la 16-a jarcento iĝas multnombra. Inter la aliaj, Hieronymus Bock, Leonhart Fuchs, Otto Brunfels, Carolus Clusius, Valerius Cordus, Ulisse Aldrovandi ktp.

Gravas en la 17-a jarcento la esploro de planta anatomio kaj biologio. Marcello Malpighi verkis Anatome plantarum (Anatomio de Plantoj). Robert Hooke en sia Micrographia priskribis insektojn kaj plantojn observatajn per mikroskopo, kaj uzis unuafoje la vorton "ĉelo" ĝuste pri la ĉeloj de iu planto, ĉar ĝi similis al mielĉeloj de abelujo. Antoni van Leeuwenhoek aldonis multe da pluaj mikroskopaj observoj, ne nur pri plantoj, sed ankaŭ pri animaloj, bakterioj ktp. Rudolf Jacob Camerarius skribis De sexu plantarum (Pri la Sekso de la Plantoj). Joseph Pitton de Tournefort, kiu skribis plurajn verkojn pri plantoscienco, helpis klarigi la difinon de genro.

La moderna klasado naskiĝis dum la 18-a jarcento. Jam je la fino de la antaŭa jarcento, John Ray en sia verko Historia plantarum generalis (Ĝenerala Historio de Plantoj) klare apartigis unukotiledonajn kaj dukotiledonajn plantojn, nudsemplantojn kaj angiospermojn. Anna Atkins, naskiĝinta je la nomo Anna Children, estis angla botanikistino kaj ilustristino. Ŝi publikigis la unuan libron, kiu ilustriĝis ekskluzive per fotografia tekniko, kaj konsideratas unu el la unuaj fotistinoj.

La sveda Karolo Lineo, kiu fondis la nuntempan metodon por nomi ĉiujn vivaĵojn, estis unue plantosciencisto, kvankam li ankaŭ interesiĝis pri bestoj. En sia verko Systema Naturae (la Sistemo de Naturo) li difinis la uzon de du latinaj vortoj por elmontri la genron kaj la specion (dunoma nomsistemo). En aliaj verkoj (Genera Plantarum, Philosophia botanica, Species plantarum) li aplikis pli amplekse sian metodon al multegaj plantojn.

La franca Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon estis alia grava sciencisto de la 18-a jarcento. Kvankam li ne konsentis kun Lineo, li ankaŭ uzis la dunoman nomsistemon. Estrante la Reĝan Ĝardenon en Parizo, li multe kontribuis al plantoscienco, ĉefe per sia verko Histoire naturelle (Natura historio).
