Thomas Medwin

Thomas MEDWIN (1788–1869) estis angla poeto kaj tradukisto de la komenco de la 19a jarcento. Li estis konata ĉefe pro sia biografio de sia kuzo, Percy Bysshe Shelley, kaj pro la kolektoj fare de tre intima amiko, Lord Byron. Liaj tradukoj de teatraĵoj de Esĥilo estis bone ricevita.

Medwin montris konsiderindan kapablon por fremdaj lingvoj kaj estis flua en greka, latina, germana, itala, hispana, franca kaj portugala. Li verkis poemojn, kiel kontribuo al The Wandering Jew (la vaganta judo), poemo atribuita al Shelley. La juna Shelley kaj Medwin renkontiĝis dum siaj respektivaj feritempoj por celoj kiaj fiŝkaptado kaj vulpo-ĉasado.

En Septembro 1820 li alvenis en Ĝenevon por resti kun Jane kaj Edward Ellerker Williams, la lasta el kiuj dronos kun Shelley. Tie li finigis sian unuan publikigitan poemon, Oswald and Edwin, An Oriental Sketch, dediĉitan al Williams.

Shelley prezentis Medwin al Lord Byron la 20an de Novembro 1821. Byron estis klare impresita el Medwin kaj ili formis daŭran amikecon.
