(Senatus Populusque Stadensis, lateinisch für „Der Rat und die Bürger von Stade“), ein blauer Schild, darin ein aufrechter silberner (weißer) Schlüssel; als Schildhalter, je ein rot bewehrter, bezungter und mit roten Vorderpranken versehener silberner (weißer) Greif mit goldener (gelber) Mähne, goldenen (gelben) Flügeln und goldenem (gelbem) Schweifende.“

Deutsch: Das Wappen zeigt den Petrusschlüssel der Erzbischöfe von Bremen. Es weißt auf die frühere Herrschaft des Erzstiftes Bremen hin ist durch Münzfunde seit dem 13. Jahrhundert nachgewiesen. Seit dem 19.Jahrhundert wird Schild von zwei Greifen gehalten. In der Hauptsatzung der Stadt von 1956 ist das Wappen erstmals wie folgt beschrieben worden (heraldisch unvollständig):„Das Wappen der Stadt zeigt einen silbernen aufrechtstehenden mit dem Bart nach rechts gewandten Schlüssel im blauen Feld, rechts und links begleitet von je einem silbernen Greifen mit goldener Mähne, goldenen Flügeln, roter aufgeschlagener Zunge und Spruchband „S. P. Q. ST.““
English: Stade received city rights in the 13th century and was a possession of the Bishops of Bremen since 1180. The oldest great seal of the city dates from the 13th century and shows three towers. A smaller seal, also from the 13th century, shows only a key. The key is the symbol of St. Peter, patron saint of the State of Bremen. Coins struck in the city show since 1272 only the key as the symbol, but until the 17th century the key did not appear on the great seals of the city. In the 19th century two griffins were added as supporters as was a motto below the shield with the letters S.P.Q.ST. (Senatus Populusque Stadensis).
