Description: A beam of merciful light originates from the Virgin Mary, being reflected by a mirror held by an angel, and finally reaching Saint Benedict of Nursia. From Benedict, knowledge rains to Benedictine monks that are known as ardent admirers of Mary (Bernard of Clairvaux, Ildephons of Toledo, Hermann of Reichenau) and on defenders of the Faith (Saint Jerome, Rupert of Salzburg, Saint Dominic). On top of the scene, God the Father. Around the central scene, places of Marian pilgrimage: Genazzano (with Pope Urbanus VIII, Fourvière near Lyon (with King Louis XI of France), Santiago de Compostela, Einsiedeln, and Altötting, plus King I. Von Maria (mitte rechts) geht ein Strahl auf ein von Engel gehaltenes Bild mit Maria und dem Jesuskind. Das Bild ist das vom Zwiefalter Ordenspatron, dem Hl. de:Benedikt von Nursia, in seiner Jugend angeblich besonders verehrte Gnadenbild aus der Ambrosius-Kirche in de:Rom. Von diesem Bild fällt ein Gnadenstrahl auf Benedikt (Bildmitte), der diesen in Verzückung mit ausgebreiteten Armen empfängt. Von Benedikt aus regnen Feuerzungen der Beredsamkeit, Erkenntnis und Erleuchtung auf de:Benediktiner, die sich besonders um die Verherrlichung Mariens verdient gemacht haben (Hl. de:Bernhard von Clairvaux, der zur damaligen Zeit als Verfasser des Liedes "de:Ave Maris Stella" galt, Hl. de:Ildefons von Toledo, de:Hermann der Lahme) und auf Kämpfer gegen die Irrlehren (z. B. die Hl. Hieronymus, de:Rupert von Salzburg, de:Dominikus). Über dieser Szenerie wacht Gott Vater (oben mitte). Rund um das Hauptmotiv des Gemäldes reihen sich, in einem bewegten Strom von Pilgern, die Marien-de:Wallfahrtsorte de:Genazzano (mit Papst de:Urban VIII.), de:Fourvière bei de:Lyon (mit Wallfahrt Ludwigs XI.), de:Santiago de Compostela, de:Einsiedeln und de:Altötting und eine Darstellung des ungarischen Königs Stephan, der sich und das Königreich Ungarn Maria weiht. |
