La gota lingvo restas en nur deko de dokumentoj, sed tiuj estas la plej antikvaj skriboj de iu ajn [[ĝermana lingvo]]. Tial ĝia studo multe helpis [[lingvoscienco]]n. La plej fama el la dokumentoj estas la [[Arĝenta Libro]], luksa [[evangelio|evangeliaro]].
