Jötun

Jötun (foje jötnar aŭ jötunn) povas esti vidita ĉie en ĝermana mitologio. Jötun estas mitologia estaĵo kiuj vivas en Jötunheimr, unu el la naŭ mondoj de norena kosmologio. Ili estis forigitaj tien fare de la Azoj kiuj rifuzis al ili eniron al sia mondo, Asgard. Jötnar ofte interagas kun la Azoj, same kiel la Vanioj. Ili estas kutime en opozicio, aŭ en konkurado kun ili, sed ankaŭ interagas kun ili en ne-malamika maniero. Iu jötnar eĉ intergeedziĝas kun la Azoj kaj Vanioj kaj multaj estas nomitaj kiel gepatroj aŭ geavoj de Azoj kiel ekzemple Toro kaj Odino. Tiu tre kompleksa rilato inter tiuj du kompareblaj gentospecoj formiĝas plej precipe en la Proza Edda kaj la Poezia Edda, finfine farante malfacile distingi ilin disde la pli konataj norenaj dioj.
