Malgraŭ li naskiĝis en Usono, sia denaska lingvo estis la slovena.[1]
Li estis en mezlernejo kiam li akiris sian unuan pagitan aktoran dungadon, kiun li certigis kiel la premion en Pittsburgh-talentokonkurso en 1951: unu-semajno-engaĝiĝo ĉe nokta klubo Carousel de Jackie Heller en New York. Liaj gepatroj insistis, ke li akceptos la engaĝiĝon, eĉ se lia 15-jaraĝa frato estis trafita de aŭto kaj mortigita nur du noktojn antaŭe.

Dum la 1980-aj jaroj li aperis en kinfilmoj kiel Underground Aces, Hot Resort, Uphill All the Way , Hollywood Vice Squad kaj Beverly Hills Bodysnatchers, krom en televidaĵoj kiel Goliath Awaits, The Fall Guy kaj Murder, She Wrote.
