Edith Nesbit estis naskita en Kennington, Londono, Anglio. Ŝi estis orfigita de sia patro kiam ŝi estis kvarjara, kaj ŝia infanaĝo estis pasigita vagante kun siaj patrino, fratino kaj du fratoj. Ŝi estis sendita al internulejo en Francio, kaj poste al monaĥejo en Germanio [2].

En 1880 ŝi geedziĝis kun Hubert Bland, unu el la fondintoj de la Fabia Societo kaj ŝi ankaŭ iĝis membro de la movado [3]. La paro havis du filojn kaj filinon. Bland mortis en 1914 [4] kaj Nesbit reedziĝis proksimume tri jarojn post lia morto [5].

Nesbit komencis verki en juna aĝo, sed famiĝis nur en la aĝo de kvardek jaroj. Ŝi estis produktiva verkistino, kiu publikigis ĉirkaŭ kvardek librojn kaj kunlaboris en la komponado de pluraj dekoj da pliaj libroj. Ŝi verkis plejparte aventurlibrojn por infanoj kaj iĝis grava kaj populara verkisto en Anglio kaj ĉirkaŭ la mondo. En Anglio, premio por porinfana literaturo eĉ estis nomita laŭ ŝi.

Nesbit mortis en 1924 kiel rezulto de pulma kancero.
